Two Sleeps

I was talking to a friend of mine at work about our commutes.

“Man, I fell asleep as soon as I got on the train last night,” I told him, “and I was out. I almost slept past my stop.”

“You know,” he said, “there are two types of sleeps when riding Metra. There’s the kind where you’re just balancing between being asleep and being awake. You’re awake just enough to know when it’s time to get up. Then there’s the second type, where you are totally out, and you don’t wake up until the end of the line.”

His observation made me think about my spiritual life:

Am I willing to fall totally asleep  in God’s arms, trusting completely in God’s will? Or will I sleep on the edge of wakefulness, trying to find a balance between my will and God’s will?
